The badge
One club for fans between clubs. Everything about it is split in two, because Ciao FC is a goodbye and a hello at the same time.
The name
Ciao is the only word in Europe that works in both directions.
You say ciao to the club that broke your heart, and ciao to the one you are about to love. Italian by birth, borrowed by France, Spain, Germany and England, so it belongs to all five leagues and to none of them.
The crest
A substitution board, which is the only paperwork this transfer needs.
- The grey arrow goes off. That is the club you supported until this morning.
- The lime arrow comes on. That is the one you will be explaining to your friends tonight.
- A shield, because every club in Europe has one, and this is a club.
The lockup
The crest never signs alone.
The colours
Two of them do the talking. One leaves, one arrives.
Night
#0a1410
Every background. A floodlit pitch at 9pm.
Lime
#c8ff4d
The club you are joining. Buttons, numbers, the arrow that comes on.
Past
#5c6b62
The club you are leaving. The arrow that goes off, greyed-out badges.
Chalk
#f3f6f2
Type, and the paper the exit statement is printed on.
The kit
Half of what you were, half of what you are about to be.
Split down the middle, the way Genoa, Cagliari and Rennes have worn it for a century. Nobody at this club keeps it for long.
The voice
Tabloid deadline day. Short sentences, second person, straight face.
- “Official · Here we go”
- “Who broke your heart?”
- “Medical in progress. Checking your heart. It's broken, but it'll do.”
- “We left out Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur, because we're not monsters.”
- “Don't call. Ciao. A former believer.”
